Miscellaneous Information
Peter was born on 27 September 1924 at Manor, Saskatchewan. Both Parents were born in England and his father was a farmer. He went to Moose Mountain school between 1931- 1940 (grades 1-9) and then Manor High School 1940-1941 (grade 9). He enjoyed playing the occasional game of hockey in between working on the home farm with his father 1941-1942. |
Peter enlisted on 10 November 1942 and after training embarked from Halifax for the U.K. on 14 December 1943. He arrived at 3 RCAF(PRC) on 22 December 1943, 2 (0) AFU 22 February 1944, 22 OTU 4 April 1944, 61 Base 26 June 1944 and 429 Squadron 23 July 1944. He sadly lost his life on 23 October 1944 at the age of just twenty years. |

Operation | Essen. 1055 aircraft- a record and yet remarkably 5 Group was not called upon at all. This was the heaviest raid on Essen so far. 8 losses (0.76%). 4538 tons of bombs were dropped, most of which were high explosives since it was considered that there was little left to burn in the target area. 607 buildings were destroyed and 812 seriously damaged. 662 people were killed. |
